 BOOK CLUBS

***

The Book Clubs below run on a rotation basis, every couple of months (info for current book club below).

How it works:

Registration will open every time we pick a new book to read. You will need to register every time we choose a new book club pick, if you are interested in attending the meeting.

Space is limited, so if you have registered but can't make it to the meeting, please send us an email or call to let us know so we can give your spot to someone else on the waiting list.

Book Club Newsletter:

To be aware of each coming book club.s, you can register to our newsletter on the home page or if you scroll all the way to the bottom. Make sure to check your spam inbox once you've subscribed.

How to support the event:

All of our book clubs are free to attend and buying the book with us isn't mandatory. However if you don't already have the book, buying it through us does support Terrier Books.

Alternatively, you can now give a voluntary-based contribution to the book club.s if you want to support our events directly.

- TERRIER BOOK CLUB -

It is our main, classic book club. The books chosen in this one will be mostly fiction. Perfect for those who like reading to escape reality !

- BOOK TO SCREEN BOOK CLUB -

Read the book & watch the movie/TV show. In most cases, there will be a date set to watch the movie all together before the meeting, where we'll compare both. We'll talk and share what we like and didn't like in both. For all the cinephile out there!

- BOLD BOOK CLUB -

A book club for the open-minded. Talk and exchange in a safe space, without judgement. Yes, there will be books on sexuality, social justice or other hot topics!

Book Pick:

Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt

About the book:

A New York Times Bestseller * A Read With Jenna Today Show Book Club Pick

Now a Netflix Film

Remarkably Bright Creatures is an ultimately feel-good but deceptively sensitive debut. . . . Memorable and tender.” —Washington Post

A charming, witty and compulsively readable exploration of friendship, reckoning, and hope that traces a widow's unlikely connection with a giant Pacific octopus

After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago.

Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

Ever the detective, Marcellus deduces what happened the night Tova’s son disappeared. And now Marcellus must use every trick his old invertebrate body can muster to unearth the truth for her before it’s too late.

Shelby Van Pelt’s debut novel is a gentle reminder that sometimes taking a hard look at the past can help uncover a future that once felt impossible.

- SILENT BOOK CLUB® in Sooke -

In partnership with the Artisan's Garden, Terrier Books will be hosting monthly Silent Book Club® (SBC) !

About Silent Book Club® :
SBC is a global community of readers, with more than 500 chapters/groups in 50 countries around the world led by local volunteers. SBC members gather together to read in quiet(ish!) camaraderie. There's no assigned reading or discussion guides—that's the "silent" part of the book club—but we do like to share book recommendations and meet like-minded readers. All readers are welcome! Find out more info at www.silentbook.club

About the event:
The SBC event will be located in the garden centre of the Artisan's Garden (right outside Terrier Books).
In case of rain, we'll do our best to accommodate and have the event held in a covered area.

Here's what to expect:
  • Take the first half hour to order your drinks, grab a good seat, and check in with your friends.
  • After that, we'll announce the start of the silent reading time (usually 1 hour) and it will be a safe quiet space to read.
  • At the end of the reading period, and for the next half hour, we'll announce that the silent reading time is up and if you want to continue reading you can, or like a traditional bookclub, you can chat with those around you about your current read (great book recommendation and even make a new friend!)
You're welcome to leave at any time during the SBC. You can stay and read for 10min, 30min or the whole 2 hours if you want! We just ask you to be respectful of the quiet space when you arrive/leave the space.

*NEW* Limited spaces. Registration is free but mandatory. Register by clicking on the date that you'd like to attend below.

NEXT COMING DATES:

FRIDAY, JUNE 12th  3-5PM

SUNDAY, JUNE 28th  2-4PM
