Pride is More Important Than Ever
Share
For this June blog post, I thought I'd share the 2SLGBTQ+ books that marked me the most so far. But first, let's be a little bit personal.
I'm a white cisgender (meaning my gender identity corresponds with the female sex designation that I was assigned at birth) heterosexual woman born in the nineties.
I grew up learning about sexuality and what it means to be a hetero woman with movies, TV shows and magazines mainly (hello Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill & all, with your -very- accurate description of teenager's life. *Please note the sarcasm here*)
And, let's just say that the gay representations in those were very limited, if not, none-existent (oh yeah, I guess we had t.A.T.u. but let's not go there...). I had a lot to learn regarding the 2SLGBTQ+ community.
Like for feminism, it's only since the past few years that I've learn more on the subject.
Books are the best for learning something new, especially something you have limited access to in real life. If you're lucky enough to have friends in the community, asking questions is the second best way to learn. I believe there no dumb question but please be sensitive and think a minute before asking them.
On this note, I leave you with these AH-mazing recommendations.
